WELCOME TO THE “AMICI DEL VERNATO” WEBSITE
It is with immense pleasure that we present our “Amici del Vernato” website. Vernato is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city of Biella, and we, students of 3A LSSA class of 2025/2026 at ITIS Biella, intend to promote and enhance the history, culture, traditions, and customs of our district. The word “amici” (friends) signifies that the site is open to anyone who wishes to collaborate and contribute.
The neighborhood’s symbol is the alder leaf (verna in dialect), as it is believed that the neighborhood’s name derives from this plant, which was widespread in marshy lands such as the Vernato plain once was. It is also worth remembering that during the Middle Ages (until 1421), Vernato, enclosed within the walls of Biella, represented a separate municipality.
